Tunghai University will be offering newly-designed Computational Thinking and Programming Languages courses in the academic year 2018-2019.
The new courses will provide solid training on fundamental knowledge regarding computational thinking and programming languages. The objectives of the courses include cultivating students’ computational thinking, developing students’ designing strategies, and strengthening their abilities in problem solving, as well as, utilizing programming languages. Each course will begin with guiding students to identify and analyze problems. As the course progresses, students will learn to recognize patterns in the identified problems and go through the process of abstracting, analogizing, and developing strategies by using programming languages to solve the problems. Useful tools such as CodeFlow will be introduced in order for students to practice creating flow charts and other graphs to visualize the logical thinking process and to turn the graphs into source codes. The content and topics of the courses will be catered to students from different fields to learn to utilize the tools to solve problems within their disciplines. In the courses, students can meet and form interdisciplinary teams with other students from different fields to tackle interdisciplinary problems. Through team work and the practical use of CodeFlow, students can enhance their problem-solving abilities and competitiveness, and prepare for their future careers.
The courses are open to all students and targeted specifically towards participants who wish to be trained to become TAs in programming languages:
Course 1: 【Computational Thinking and Programming Languages】
Target Students: This is an introductory course open to all students.
Course 2: 【Teaching and Practice of Computational Thinking and Programming Languages Teaching】
Target Students: This course is designed for students who already have basic skills of programming languages and wish to become TAs for the courses on Computational Thinking and Programming Languages in the future.
